- Understanding the workflow comes before choosing an implementation
- Code is written to be maintained, including by whoever inherits it
- Accessibility, error states, and failure behavior are part of the work, not a later pass
- We say what a product does and does not do, in public and to customers
- Both product and client engineering happen here, and they inform each other
